Donors Endow a Lifeline for Employees

Jamie and Harold KotlerFour years ago, Hebrew SeniorLife Board Member Harold Kotler found himself at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Boston—but this time, as a patient.

Harold chose HRC-Boston for his rehab from back surgery partly because he wanted first-hand experience with the care that he had heard so much about. "The care was wonderful," Harold recalls. "It's amazing the work and effort that goes into every person's job—they do it out of love." Harold's wife Jamie has encountered the same spirit among staff and residents in her volunteer work at NewBridge on the Charles and Center Communities of Brookline. As a rabbinical student at Hebrew College, Jamie leads services and teaches at the two HSL independent living communities.

In recognition of the caring and commitment of HSL employees, the Kotlers recently made a gift to endow the HSL Employee Lifeline Program (H.E.L.P.), which will be renamed the Jamie and Harold Kotler H.E.L.P. Fund at Hebrew SeniorLife. HSL employees can apply to the H.E.L.P. Fund and receive monetary assistance in times of crisis—such as the job loss of a family member, an accident, or a health crisis.

The Kotlers hope that in addition to the impact on employees, their gift will inspire others in the community to "give more, reach deep, and share their time and wealth."
