Hebrew Rehabilitation Center's Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinic in Boston provides physical and occupational therapy and speech-language pathology services for community-based seniors area.
Occupational therapy
Clinic staff members offer customized occupational therapy programs to help seniors improve their ability to carry out activities of daily living. In addition, our therapists conduct comprehensive evaluations of home and work environments and offer recommendations and training in the use of adaptive equipment, among other services. Our therapists treat such issues as difficulties with eating, grooming, hygiene and transferring, as well as hand dexterity and vision problems. OT can address a number of conditions, including:
- arthritis
- Parkinson's disease
- Alzheimer's disease
- peripheral nerve injuries
- tendon injuries
- joint replacements
- fibromyalgia
- heart conditions
Speech-Language pathology
Speech-language pathology services help older patients with speech-language, cognitive-linguistic, and swallowing disorders. The clinic focuses on:
- communication disorders, including comprehension, expression, speech production, and voice
- cognitive-linguistic deficits, including attention, concentration, reasoning, problem solving, memory, thought organization, and safety awareness
- dysphagia, a swallowing disorder, including all aspects of chewing and/or swallowing food, liquids or pills
Physical therapy
Physical therapy programs help older patients increase, restore or maintain their range of motion, physical strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and endurance following an injury or illness. Our physical therapists also make recommendations about adaptations and/or equipment to make the home safer and more accessible, as well as teach positioning, transferring and walking skills to promote maximum function and independence within an individual's capabilities.

- Alzheimer's disease and other dementias
- functional limitations related to mobility
