General Requirements & Procedures
- The minimum age for volunteers at HRC is 14; it may be 14 or 16 years, depending on the position. All pharmacy volunteers must be 18 years or older.
- Applications must be completed and all applicants must interview with the Director of Volunteer Services. Acceptance is determined by qualifications and availability of appropriate volunteer roles.
- Volunteer service is contingent upon satisfactory results of a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) background check, completed on all applicants.
- Volunteers are required to serve a minimum of 25 hours within a six-month period.
- A TST (Tuberculin Skin Test) is mandatory.
- Volunteers must participate in an orientation to HRC and be trained in his/her area of service.
- All volunteer applicants must interview with the Director of Volunteer Services before being placed in a volunteer assignment.
- Tuberculosis (TB) testing with TST is required for all new volunteers and will be done on an annual basis during the month of the volunteer's birthday.
- All volunteers must be photographed in Human Resources for an identification badge. Wearing the volunteer ID badge during volunteer service is mandatory. Badges must be returned to the volunteer office when service terminates.
- Orientation packets include information on fire and safety, infection control, and transport safety. All volunteers, regardless of placement, review booklets on patient confidentiality and resident safety (abuse). A guidebook is provided with more detailed information on acceptable conduct, the dress code, smoking and cell phone usage, signing in and out, etc. It is the responsibility of the volunteer to adhere to the rules. Failure to do so may result in termination.
- The department to which the volunteer is assigned provides training specific to the department/role.
