Mental Health & Aging Program Activities

Delirium, Dementia and Other Cognitive Disorders
The onset of disturbances of thinking and consciousness, and fears of developing Alzheimer's disease or dementia, are among the most pressing concerns of older adults. We conduct and collaborate in observational and intervention research directed at reducing the burden of cognitive impairment, dementia and delirium in older adults.

Mood Disorders
Depression is the leading cause of disability in developed nations. We pursue research to improve the detection, inform the epidemiology, and ultimately improve care of mood disorders.

Health-Care Quality
The majority of nursing home residents suffer from mental health disorders, including delirium, cognitive impairment or dementia, or depression. Improving the quality of care all nursing home residents receive is one of the main research activities of our group.

Development and Training in Research Methods
Progress in research requires constant refinement of methods and measures. We are committed to continually developing our own skills and in sharing our knowledge with other students and investigators through formal training programs, workshops and collaborations.
