Excessive curvature of the spine, or hyperkyphosis, affects as many as 20-40% of older adults and poses serious problems in performing everyday activities like walking, standing, reaching, and even breathing.

In collaboration with the Framingham Heart Study, a team of scientists at the Institute for Aging Research, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and Boston University Medical Center will study 2,000 men and women between the ages of 50 and 85 and use the results to identify the causes and clinical consequences of hyperkyphosis.
