Institute for Aging Research (IFAR)
The Institute for Aging Research is the largest gerontological research facility located in an applied setting. For more than 40 years, the combination of Hebrew SeniorLife's residential, medical and research resources has provided a valuable opportunity to conduct rigorous clinical investigations into age-related disease and disability. The discoveries by IFAR's scientists have guided how we care for our residents and informed the development of our independent housing and continuing care communities. And, beyond Hebrew SeniorLife, their discoveries have had a profound impact on how we view old age, giving rise to the appreciation that quality of life can be optimized at all stages of an individual's life.
From IFAR's world-renowned musculoskeletal team, to the Aging Brain Center, to social research that measures the success of our systems of care at home and abroad, IFAR's multidisciplinary faculty, promotes research that considers the complex relationship between biological, social and psychological factors that influence how well we can all live in old age now, and in the future.
The Institute for Aging Research of Hebrew SeniorLife is a not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization funded through government grants and individual, foundation and corporate gifts. Additional support is provided by the Hebrew SeniorLife's Women's Auxiliary and Men's Associates.
