SAGES: Successful AGing after Elective Surgery Study
After a surgery and hospitalization, the thinking and functioning of older adults can sometimes suffer, causing difficulties in their activities of daily living.
Previous studies have shown these changes occur in 30-40% of older adults.
SAGES is designed to examine the risk factors, causes and duration of these changes in thinking and functioning. Ultimately, our hope is to find ways of helping older adults successfully recover after surgery.
Who can participate?
Age 70 or older
Scheduled to undergo surgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center or Brigham and Women's Hospital
