Dr. John Halporn is the hospice medical director and a consulting palliative care physician in the Rehabilitative Care Unit at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center–NewBridge on the Charles. He brings extensive experience in hospice and palliative medicine, ethics, and interdisciplinary care to his role at Hebrew SeniorLife.
Before joining Hebrew SeniorLife, Dr. Halporn served as director of the palliative care service at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, where he also co-chaired the hospital’s Ethics Committee and directed Harvard Medical School’s CME course “Practical Aspects of Palliative Care.” Earlier in his career, he held leadership positions at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Cambridge Health Alliance, and Emerson Hospital. He is an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.
In his role overseeing hospice care and contributing to the continued expansion of the palliative care program at NewBridge, Dr. Halporn collaborates closely with Dr. Susan Kalish and the broader clinical team. His leadership emphasizes multidisciplinary partnership and the integration of hospice and palliative services to enhance coordinated, compassionate care for patients and families.
