Two Hebrew SeniorLife Nursing Facilities Recognized by CMS as High-Performing

Skilled nursing facility in Dedham and Rehabilitative Services Unit in Boston are high performers in quality, safety, and staffing.

Hebrew SeniorLife, a national leader in senior care and aging research, announces that two of its facilities have been identified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as high-performing nursing facilities in Massachusetts. Hebrew SeniorLife is a Harvard Medical School affiliate.

The skilled nursing facility at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center at NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham and the Rehabilitative Services Unit at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Boston were among 57 Massachusetts nursing facilities identified by CMS as high performers, representing approximately 17% of the Commonwealth’s nursing facilities.

The recognition qualifies both facilities for CMS’s new risk-based survey process, which acknowledges nursing facilities with demonstrated records of strong performance across quality, health inspections, and staffing measures.

To qualify, facilities must maintain high CMS star ratings, have no recent citations involving actual harm or immediate jeopardy, meet federal staffing and data reporting requirements, and rank among the state’s better-performing facilities based on health inspection results.

“This recognition reflects the dedication of our nurses, clinicians, caregivers, and support staff who work every day to provide exceptional care to older adults,” said LuAnn Fitzgerald, PT, JD, LNHA, senior director of quality, safety, and regulatory affairs at Hebrew Rehabilitation Center. “Having two of our facilities recognized among the highest-performing nursing facilities in Massachusetts demonstrates our commitment to quality, safety, and compassionate, person-centered care. We are especially proud of the teams whose hard work made this achievement possible.”

CMS developed the risk-based survey process to tailor regulatory oversight to nursing facilities that have consistently demonstrated strong performance. Eligible facilities may receive a more streamlined survey process while remaining subject to federal quality and safety requirements.
