Biography

Sandra Shi, MD, MPH, is a geriatrician and instructor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and a researcher at the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research at Hebrew SeniorLife. Her research focuses on frailty and post-acute care in skilled nursing facilities, leveraging large datasets and Medicare claims data to study outcomes and inform care delivery. In 2024, she received the Health in Aging Foundation New Investigator award from the American Geriatrics Society. She has been a National Institute on Aging Butler-Williams scholar, a GEMSSTAR awardee, and is a current Beeson scholar. 

Dr. Shi’s goal is to help frail older adults get stronger and return home by designing post-acute SNF interventions that serve as a launchpad for recovery. Her multidimensional approach to aging research emphasizes personalized, patient-centered outcomes that empower older adults and their families throughout the post-acute rehabilitation journey.
