Hebrew SeniorLife, a national nonprofit leader in senior living and health care services for older adults, recently launched the Lunder CareForce Institute to build on our long history of education and training in health care. The Institute is dedicated to helping compassionate, hard-working people move into frontline health care jobs and start meaningful careers with a range of employers that can change their lives.

Nurse Aide Training Program

This nurse aide training program will position you for a caregiving job with a local employer by training you to take the Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) exam. This hands-on training focuses on building the skills, confidence, and compassion you’ll need to thrive in real-world health care settings. No prior health care experience is required, and there is no tuition cost to students. Lunder CareForce Institute’s Nurse Aide Training Program is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (approval #NNBC).

Your tuition is free; however, you will not be paid during class hours. If you need to work while participating in the program, you will need to work outside of class hours to commit to the class schedule. We anticipate both full-time and part-time schedules for future sessions.

Certified Nurse Aides in Massachusetts make between $18 and $23 per hour to start. Experienced CNAs can earn up to $27 per hour.

What You Get and How We Are Different

  • Get hired before you train: You’ll talk to us to learn more about whether you are eligible for the program, then participate in an interview with your preferred employer. Once a job offer is extended, you will begin training.
  • Training from experienced teachers and a state-approved curriculum: You’ll learn in the classroom, get practice with simulations, and gain hands-on experience at the bedside. Lessons will include things like nutrition, movement and exercise, how to take vital signs, and oral health.
  • Preparation for a state exam: We will prepare you for a test that will list you on the Massachusetts Health and Human Services Licensed Professionals Registry as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
  • Start right away if you pass: Participation in the Lunder CareForce Nurse Aide Training Program requires students to be sponsored by an employer. Sponsoring employers hire students into entry-level positions and support their participation in the training program. If you pass the certification test at the end of the program, your job will start immediately with your sponsoring employer.
  • Continued help after you start working: We stay with you after you pass the exam to coach you to succeed on the job. Lunder CareForce Institute mentors will support you throughout your employment to help you succeed and grow.

What Does a Certified Nurse Aide Do?

You will provide hands-on care to people in a variety of settings to support their quality of life. This includes helping them maintain dignity and comfort while you support their basic daily routines with bathing, dressing, meal prep, and room tidying help. You’ll check vital signs — things like temperature, blood pressure, and heart rate — document what you observe, and report any changes in health.

Certified nurse aides often go on to nursing careers as RNs and LPNs.
